Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.29 / Trend, A. Taghiyeva /

Interpol has issued an arrest warrant today for former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's son Saadi Gaddafi, Al Arabiya TV channel reported.

Mass demonstrations demanding for the ouster of Qaddafi, who has been ruling the country for more than 40 years, started in Libya in mid-February and subsequently grew into armed confrontation between the government forces and the rebels.

During the nearly six months of fighting Gaddafi regime's opponents managed to establish control over practically the entire Libyan territory. In late August, the opposition forces with support of NATO aviation captured the Libyan capital of Tripoli. Gaddafi's whereabouts is still unknown.

In February, the opposition formed National Transitional Council (NTC) in Benghazi, which has been announced as the only legitimate authority in the country. NTC has been recognized by some 60 countries, including Russia.
